Due to the increase of renewable energy and DC link, power electronic converters play a more and more important role in the AC network.
This course is dedicated to engineers who already knows the funding of power electronics and who wants to improve their knowledge about the different converters (eg: Modular Multilevel Converter), HVDC links, renewable converters. All this will be modeled with EMTP-RV which provide numerous and accurate tools to study the connection and the interaction of these devices on the AC grid.
The course is based on the usage of EMTP-RV for demonstrating concepts and teaching through practical problem cases.
The duration of the course is 4 days.
The course starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. every day except the last day (at 4:00 pm).
The course is presented in English.
Each participant will have access to computer. EMTP-RV temporary licenses will be provided for the duration of the course.
They could be users of the software but also people who would like to discover how useful simulation can be for them.
Introduction to power system transients and EMTP-RV
Theoretical backgrounds on transients and computational methods
Presentation of the software tool
Simulation of a Voltage Source Converter on EMTP-RV
Introduction to Power Electronic on EMTP-RV
Presentation of the VSC
Introduction to HVDC Link
HVDC link and MMC
Line and cable models
HVDC Link and Multi Terminal DC grid
Modular Multilevel Converter
Application to Wind turbine modelling
The course will take place in Ecole Centrale de LILLE, FRANCE.
Ecole Centrale de LILLE
Cité Scientifique - BP 48
59651 VILLENEUVE D'ASCQ CEDEX
Access to Ecole Centrale de LILLE:
If you arrive by car, get out of the motor-way at "Villeneuve-d'Asq - Cité Scientifique".
Ecole Centrale de Lille is situated on the Avenue Paul LANGEVIN, 300 m from the METRO STATION "Quatre Quantons".
The course will take place in the main building of Ecole Centrale de LILLE, room A25 on the ground floor

Lille is a major city, very well located in central west Europe, with 1.1 million people for the city itself within a 4 million people area, with all modern infrastructures for communication, transport, accommodation, etc.
Lille is very easy to reach (1h) directly by train from Charles-de-Gaulle Airport in Paris (departure of the TGV train from the Airport), as well as from London (1h30) and from Brussels (30mn), where stands the European Commission.
The railway station in Lille is downtown, with easy connections by metro to the University and conference centers.
