Mario Paolone graduated (with honors) in Electrical Engineering and received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1998 and 2002, respectively.
In 2005 he was appointed as Assistant Professor in Electric Power Systems at the University of Bologna and in 2010 he got the Associate Professors eligibility from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
He was with the Power Systems Laboratory of the University of Bologna until 2011.
Currently he is Associate Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne, Switzerland where he accepted the EOS Holding Chair of Distributed Electrical Systems.
His research interests are in the area of smart grids, with particular reference to real-time monitoring and operation of active distribution networks, power systems protections, dynamics and transients.
