You can take advantage of the open architecture of EMTP-RV to create customized toolboxes. A toolbox can contain libraries, documentations, scripts, DLLs and examples. Its content is loaded automatically when EMTP-RV starts and is completely integrated into the program.

Capacitor Bank Switching

 

Powersys performed a capacitor bank switching study for a utility located in North America. The scope of work concerned a Medium Voltage/High Voltage 100MVA substation located at the end of a relatively long radial transmission line. A load increase is forecasted for the next years and it is planned to replace the actual capacitor bank by a 50MVAR unit to provide the additional power without a severe voltage dip.

Modeling of electric railway system

A model of electric railway system connected to 110 kV network was developed in order to determine power quality parameters of voltage and current. A model consists of electric railway substation and contact line feeding electric locomotives equipped with diode rectifiers. Figure 12 shows the model in EMTP-RV software which is used for analysis of electromagnetic transients.

An electric railway substation consists of one 110/25 kV transformer with rated power 7.5 MVA which is connected to the transmission grid. The transformer impedance was calculated from the manufacturer data.

For the company, ENGIE Lab Laborelec, we aPOWERSYS performed an electromagnetic interference study,  in order to evaluate the influences of three transmission lines (220 kV and 70 kV) on a buried gas pipeline. This is according to the standards ITU-T K33 and IEC 60479-1.

Different kinds of installations (metallic pipelines, telecommunication systems, power systems) can be subject to induced voltage and current in the vicinity of electrical systems. The operating conditions (normal steady-state or fault) of the disturbing systems and the position (overhead or buried) of each installation are the origin of inductive, capacitive, or conductive coupling. Electromagnetic interferences studies can be performed to investigate these effects.

Application of Saturable Core Fault Current Limiters in Industrial Power Systems - Simulation Study
EDF R&D and the University of Zagreb (Department of Energy and Power Systems, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing) have worked together on the application of saturable core fault current limiters in industrial power systems.
They carried out a simulation study using EMTP-RV and they consequently wrote a technical paper to present their work.
